On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, we had the pleasure of having T. Rowe Price come to our meeting. Our presenters were David Sereno, internal auditing, and Cameron Lehmann, financial management. Personally, it was a great opportunity for us to hear from a Global Asset Management Company about the history of T. Rowe Price. We also learned the present and future for T. Rowe Price and played a game called “Beat the Market”. The emphasis was placed on the company’s history. T. Rowe Price is known for working with 401k and mutual funds. Their slogan is “invest with confidence,” which was developed from the history of T. Rowe Price. Throughout Thomas Rowe Price’s life, he was faced with high pressure sale environments. He discovered the best way to be successful was to be honest and not worry about the high pressure sales environment or turning a profit. What I found the most aspiring was when Thomas Rowe Price went two years without salary to keep the lights on and to be able to pay his employees. Another slogan they shared with us was “follow your passion; it’s okay if it changes.” This slogan personally hit home for me because when I entered college I did not start as an accounting major. Half way through my sophomore year I had to learn to follow my passion which lead me to accounting.
Looking at the present and future history of T. Rowe Price’s we learned that as of December 31, 2018 T. Rowe Price managed $962.3 billion, $5.4 billion in revenue, no debt, earnings per share of $7.27/ share, employee 6,800+ people, offices in 16 countries, such as Hong Kong and London, 300+ U.S. mutual funds and as of Friday T. Rowe Price traded in the NASDAQ at $103.97. Lastly, the presenters made this presentation engagingby having us play a game called beat the market. This game was very interesting and fun. We had to work as a team to invest a certain number of shares in various companies. We were able to utilize our teamwork and mathematical skills. Quoc, Danielle, Taylor, Kristen, JohnRay, and Donnie won the first round.
